This week we interviewed Andrew Zimmern, who gave us the recipe for his son’s favorite snack—“Dinosaur Eggs.” We figured you’d want your kid’s lunch to be the envy of the playground, or maybe you just want to make yourself a snack that comes with a built-in imagination adventure, so we’ve posted his fool-proof recipe below.
Ingredients:
Eggs
Water
White Vinegar
Food Dye
Put 4-6 eggs in a pot of unheated water, then bring water with the eggs in it to a boil. Let it boil for three minutes, then turn the burner off and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 15 minutes. After that, immediately take the eggs out and put them in a container, then run cold water over the container to chill the eggs. Fill the container the eggs are in with water, a tablespoon of white vinegar, and a teaspoon or so of food dye. Thanks to the vinegar, the dye will seep into the eggs and color them a soft hue of whatever color dye you’ve used. Put a note in your kid’s lunch that says “Dinosaur Eggs Included!”
If you’re making them for yourself, you can still make the note, but let’s be honest that’s getting kind of weird.
